Should more dramatic steps be taken to stop texting and driving?

Texting and driving is not a rare occasion these days. From the just quick look that I gathered from information online texting and driving is becoming a serious problem. Unfortunately, it mostly involves my generation. The teens of the world today are connected to their phones. Even performing a task as dangerous as driving won't stop them from being on their phones. This topic intrigued me once I started looking more into the statistics over the past couple of years. The correlation between texting and driving and accidents on the road is outstanding. My personal stand on this is that yes, we should have more steps taken to get people off of their phones while driving a vehicle.
I recognize that people may disagree with me and that's fine. All I'm trying to say is that with a few more cautious measures taken by the government or by the people themselves, we could save numerous lives. Driving is not something to be taken lightly and taking your eyes off the road for a moment to text someone back is all it can take to get you or someone else killed.
